News of 3S Rowers...
Last weekend Greg Benning of
Boston’s Cambridge Boat Club pulled away from the pack with a blistering 18:19.76 at the Head of the Charles Regatta, breaking the existing course record for his age group by more than 14 seconds. This is the second
consecutive win for Greg, who has been a 3S user for the past two seasons.
This year preparation for HOCR was not easy for Greg. Challenges related to a
change of employment, family, and community commitments
(fundraising activities for
Community Rowing) most definitely took their
toll. Nevertheless, Greg managed to put enough time and effort into training to make this a record-breaking year.
Greg came to 3S a little over two years ago with one burning question… “ Can you help me win the Charles?” We knew we could help, but obviously
couldn't "guarantee" he would win. There were far too many variables for that. But we immediately prepared a program for him and with his keen analytical mind, Greg embraced 3S from the outset.
Today, after his second consecutive victory, there is no doubt among even the most die-hard skeptics that 3S produces champions. We would like to
thank Greg for his commitment to 3S, and congratulate him on his world-class performance!
This is what Greg had to say about the race.
“I had a very good row. There were 58 competitors in my race and I started third based on my time in 2006. The race is 5000 meters long
and started in 10 second intervals, with rowers near their closest competition. You are able to tell if you are moving well by the number of strokes between you and the other rowers.
My strongest competitor, who had a slightly faster time than me at another race 2 weeks ago, started right behind me. I had increased the length of my oars a bit in an effort
to get more speed, but this was a gamble: If there was a headwind, this could have made the boat feel too heavy for me to row well.
Fortunately the weather forecast was right. There was a light tailwind and I was able to be very aggressive. My race was close for about the first 3 kilometers, but at that
point I started to sense some gaps beginning to widen. I made a decision to open it up and go for it in the last mile.
I won in a time of 18:19 and took 14 seconds off the age group course record set in 1992.”
3S has already helped tens of thousands of athletes like Greg, and we can help you with your dreams as well. To learn more about the 3S System, click on any of the links below. But the best way to see
